K-POP is not only Gangnam Style

Now if you hear the word K-Pop and instantly think about 'Gangnam Style'  then your mind is stuck in some black hole. K-Pop directly refers to 'KOREAN POP '.  If you have no idea what I am talking about. Let me explain....

K-Pop or Korean pop is a music genre originating from the country of South Korea. K-Pop includes a lot of bands and solo artists in it. K-Pop idols do not specifically have to be Korean to be an idol.

This year several new groups are going to debut. To become an Idol, you have to train first. The trainee years can last from two all the way up to seven years until you've thoroughly mastered vocal and dancing skills. K-Pop trainees work endlessly on their vocal and dancing skills to become a real artist who can fit the expectations people have from an idol. There is onemassive misconception among a lot of people that K-Pop is just another word for the song 'Gangnam Style'.

Most people did not like the song because of its lack of vocals and choreography. Add to that, the music video is just cheesy. All people who do not like the particular song end up assuming that K-Pop is just a bunch of people dancing and singing with no meaning or substance. But NO, K-Pop has changed a lot and by that I mean, a lot. K-Pop is not just meaningless art; it has a whole world behind it. For Bands it's a whole process and remarkable journey from the start, debuting their very first song till the last song that they’ll ever make. A lot of bands have also thrown light on social issues and themes in their songs. For example, a girl group named 'Loona' made a song called 'Butterfly' talking  about how women from every race, religion, place, ability, sexuality shall rise and fly like a butterfly. . It may not be the best or fall under everyone's music taste but it's a great start, nonetheless. There is another artist called 'Chuu' , who , in one of her songs speaks about and basically subtly supports the LGBT+ community by talking about her own girl crush. BTS an extremely popular international brand has enlightened us about the importance of loving ourselves in three of their albums. They even talked about the significance of the same topics at the UN conference and are part of the UNICEF.

Every idol or band has a whole community dedicated to them, and let me say, there are some very dedicated and loyal fans. Every fan base has its community name, which makes it even more unique to each group. For example, the 'Twice' fandom is called 'Once', and the 'BTS' fandom is called the 'ARMY'. There have been so many situations where fans would run projects, give donations etc. just in the name of their idols. A lot of fandoms run mental health projects, health donation campaigns, turtle saving campaigns and 'Save Children' donations and many more for whom? For their IDOLS! They are most dedicated, loyal and amazing fans. They are also talented. They would make fan arts, song covers, dance covers, and organize events just for their idols! They are funny and talented!

Music has no language barriers or any barriers at all. It is all about its deepness, how meaningful it is, and how happy it makes you feel. It is like an ocean, free, wild, profound and beautiful. There is always something for everyone. All you need to do is to take a deep dive, and you'll know how beautiful it is.
